How it works

  1. Drop images

Open SnapShrink and drop JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF files onto the drop zone — or pick them with the file dialog. No account and no install.

  2. Set quality or target size

Choose an output format and quality slider, or type a Target KB value when you need a hard file-size cap. Compression runs in a Web Worker so the tab stays responsive.

  3. Download or ZIP

Download each file, or grab the whole batch as a ZIP assembled in your browser. Still no server round-trip for your pixels.

Why compress images in the browser

Most “compress images online” tools ask you to upload files to a remote encoder. That creates a copy on someone else’s disk — even when they promise deletion later. SnapShrink reads your files with the browser File API, compresses them locally, and lets you download the result.

Verify it yourself: open DevTools → Network, compress a photo, and confirm there are no file uploads to SnapShrink. EXIF metadata is stripped automatically on every compression, on your device. Full details live on the privacy page.

Batch compress images

Need to compress images from a whole folder? Multi-select or drop a stack, apply the same quality or Target KB settings, and download one ZIP when the batch finishes. Each file is processed individually so different photos can land under the same size goal.

For batch habits, comparisons, and ZIP tips, see the dedicated bulk image compressor page — the compressor itself is the same /app/ tool.

Hit an exact file size

When a portal says “maximum 100KB,” a quality slider alone is guesswork. Target-KB mode lets you type the cap — for example 100 — and SnapShrink searches for the highest quality that fits at or under that size when the target is reachable.

Use the focused flow on compress image to 100KB when that exact limit is the job.

Convert to WebP while you compress

Reducing file size is not only about the quality slider. Switching output to WebP often shrinks photos further for the web at similar visual quality. Set format to WebP in the same tool, or start from the WebP converter landing page when PNG/JPG → WebP is the primary goal.

Formats supported

Input Output options
JPEG / JPG JPEG, PNG, WebP
PNG JPEG, PNG, WebP
WebP JPEG, PNG, WebP
GIF JPEG, PNG, WebP (first frame)

Animated GIF to animated WebP is not the goal: GIF inputs are handled as a still (first frame) so you get a practical web still without uploading the animation.
